DFW Car & Toy Museum Acquires Rare Low-Mileage 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL

The DFW Car & Toy Museum has expanded its prestigious Ron Sturgeon Collection with the acquisition of an exceptionally preserved 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL featuring only 12,000 original miles. This radiant red roadster represents the peak of 1980s grand touring luxury from the German automaker during what many enthusiasts consider Mercedes-Benz's golden era of automotive excellence. The vehicle now joins other automotive treasures at the museum's 150,000-square-foot facility located at 2550 McMillan Parkway in Fort Worth.

Powering this classic cruiser is a 5.5-liter V8 engine factory-rated at 227 horsepower and 279 lb-ft of torque, delivering what owner Ron Sturgeon describes as "understated power" that makes the SL timeless. The powertrain features a four-speed automatic transmission and limited-slip differential, complemented by power steering, fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes that provide the balanced performance for which the R107 chassis became famous. This particular 560SL represents the most powerful and refined version of the R107 chassis, which was offered exclusively in the North American market from 1986 through 1989.
